Balanced Beginnings

I had never been a consistently fit person. By that I mean I bounced back and forth a lot. I would get comfortable and put on weight, panic and crash diet it away when I was younger. As I got older, I learned to lose weight using healthier methods. But it never failed; I would get comfortable, depressed, or stressed out. It seemed like it was always something.

My husband, on the other hand, had always been fit for as long as I had known him. Up until the last few years of his life, he was active and, despite his love for heavy meals and junk food, healthy at least, as far as we could tell until he changed jobs.

In his new job, he made more money, but he worked odd hours, giving him less time to pursue the outdoor activities he loved, and it involved a lot of driving. This meant he was much more sedentary than he had previously been. He developed a belly.

His reaction was all in good humor. He joked and laughed about it. It wasn't a big deal to him. He decided he just needed to watch what he ate a bit more closely and get some exercise. We were both concerned about how quickly he put this weight on, but we thought it was just a consequence of getting older. We thought we had time to address it.

My life changed forever one night three and a half years ago when my husband passed away at forty-four years old. We later found out he had suffered from an undiagnosed condition: an enlarged heart. Undiagnosed conditions and diseases are unfortunately common, affecting an estimated 25 to 30 million Americans, according to The National Institutes of Health.

I can't describe the grief of the time that followed, but I can tell you about the passion and determination that came after it. My children had already lost one parent, and I wanted to make sure they didn't have to suffer that pain again anytime soon. I knew I needed to embrace a healthier lifestyle.

I had already been a yoga practitioner for many years. As the grief of loss became more manageable, I began deepening my practice and reading more about the philosophy behind yoga. That led me to Ayurveda. From there, a world of holistic health practices opened to me.

It became a passion. I began taking classes and earning certificates to help me open a business where I could pass on my knowledge and guide clients on a path to good health.

Modern medicine has advanced in considerable ways, with more advancements every day. But it's not healthcare; it's sick care and sickness prevention. We don't go to the doctor to maintain good health; we go to the doctor to treat poor health. Or to prevent it.

Holistic therapy is a path to wellness that focuses on treating people instead of just managing symptoms. It stresses the connection of mind, body, and spirit to improve well-being through different techniques and methods.

It can make people less reliant on doctors and medications by supporting their whole health. Because it encourages your healthiest lifestyle, holistic wellness prevents illness, helps relieve chronic conditions, and enhances the effects of other treatments. It doesn't replace modern medicine but complements it.

Holistic wellness is whole-body wellness. It's not just about healing infirmity or prevention. It's about optimizing health and creating balance.

The purpose of this blog is to spread awareness about holistic treatments and some health issues it can address. Though there are many disciplines in holistic therapy, I'll focus mainly on the ones I've studied.

Subscribers can read helpful tips and regular advice for improving their health with all-natural methods. Premium subscribers will also receive additional resources such as information packets like the ones I provide for clients.

These packets have useful information, exercises, workbooks, and journals for health and wellness management. They will be emailed to premium subscribers in PDF form regularly.

We'll cover various holistic techniques including life coaching, nutrition, fitness, yoga, counseling, somatic integration therapy, hypnotherapy, and more. I hope you'll join me for a harmonious journey into mind-body awareness and spiritual growth.
